Oh
General! My General! - with apologies to Walt Whitman and Abraham Lincoln
O
General! my General! our fearful trip's not done,
'Tho Earth has weather'd all attacks, the war is not yet won,
The threat is near, the Gate I hear, the teams are all preparing,
While follow eyes the steady turn, the chevrons are engaging;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops that fall,
In the control room my General is not-
Gone from these stark halls.
O
General! my General! return and hear the Gate;
Return-for you the chevron locks-for you the horizon made,
For you we travel'd to distant worlds-for you allies were found,
For you they come, the swaying mass, their trust in you abounds;
Hear General! dear father!
This voice for you, it calls!
It is some dream that I now suffer,
You've gone from these stark halls.
My
General does not answer, his office bare and cold,
My father does not heed my voice; my fears have grown untold,
Earth is safe, for now it seems, these recent battles won,
But I well know, this war goes on, perhaps never to be done;
Exult O team, for you have returned,
But I with voice forestalled,
Walk where my dear General is not-
Gone from these stark halls.

A tribute to Hammond
(to the tune of The Pointer Sisters' "Slow hand")
I want a General who's a bald man
I want a General who can ease my mind
I want a General who will give us time
Won't close the iris when we're in a bind
I want a General who will understand
I want a General who's a bald man

General Hammond was in command
He ran things with a steady hand
He was held in high esteem
By each and every team
Against the gould he did stand.
