Memories
of German City Con by Jennifer Renner
Sam23
made the most amazing intro vids. Silent movies which told the story how Peter
Deluise, Colin Cunningham, Michael Shanks and Cliff Simons came to attain their
tickets for the GCC (if I find the download you *have* to watch those!!!).
Peter was in awe and offered Sam a job as an editor...twice! *go girl*
During the opening ceremony Peter asked and thus addressed a common seterotype Americans
have about Germany: David Hasselhof.... So : NO, in Germany David Hasselhof is
NOT a big star! (Peter: "Well, someone should tell him!")
I went to the photo session. Lucky me. As I went up, no one else was there but
me and I strolled into the room to have my photo with Michael taken ('cause I
couldn't afford the rest as well), I scanned the room and ... boy those are nice
men... :-) ... okay … Cliff is and Michael is. So the photographer called him
over and he just wore a muscle shirt (so I was kinda distracted and did not --as
planned--look into his eyes to find out if they are really as blue), he shook
my hand, asked for ma name and hugged me for the photo. Sweet. :-)
I went into the main room rather chipper!
Then … Lunchbreak
Next, the panels. First Cliff ; did you know, that he was a swimmer for the
Olympic team? That he was Mr. South Africa? That he has a ballet and Jazz dance
education and worked in the Moulin Rouge in Paris for one year? No? Me neither.
He did refuse to dance for us, though...*pouts*
Michael: That guy rocks!! He's soo great. Snaps back at the audience "Do
you want me to come over and take that microphone away?" *scold*
... or ...
Guy: "How's your woman?"
*audience and Michael collapses in laughter*
Michael: "Woman fine. Woman had baby. Baby fine."
and apologizes for "Sumuru" (the movie) ... which in return provoked
the question: "Can you tell us about the movie you just did in Toronto?
(or wherever that was) ... Michael was silent ... "Don't say it's
classified" ... MS: "I'm thinking..." ..."Well, think
aloud!" … MS: "huh?"... and then he explained, "It's called
"Swarm" It's about killer wasps ... and you know they ...*coughs* ...
swarm..." *audience laughs and someone shouts "Do you need the
money??" which made MS laugh, too. MS: "It's not a B-movie ... it's a *wasp*-movie..." *audience: daahhh* MS :"Well ... next
question..."
It was fun. He paid us back on several occasions. :-)
Colin was nice, but I think he's a bit too preoccupied with himself. Hence the
clothes I guess. Btw, that shirt really screwed up my photo. I have hardly one
focussed image ...
Peter was fun. He paid all the children when he cursed or he paid people who
asked controversial questions, like : "How long do you have to wait when firing
a zat gun so that the second shot does *not* kill? One hour? A day? A
week?" Peter: "Huh?" Didn't have an answer. :-)
I got my autographs. I just bought a T-shirt to let Peter, Colin and Cliff sign
on it, because, I couldn't afford 3 photos at 20 Euro. Peter met bitch-me ... he
always talked to the assistant sitting next to him "Ask her if I should
personalize it ..." I: "Uhm ... standing right here ...." P:
"Oh, you speak English?" I: "Actually I just attained my masters
degree in English literature..." P: "Oh ... sorry ... what's your
name?" (My payback for talking in that fake German accent all the time.
Because Germans with a German accent are a pest, but an American imitating a
German accent, that's just too much. :-) )
Cliff asked me whether he could call me Jen and Colin wanted to sign on my
batch too. Therefore he dragged me on top of the table (which of course was
filmed...).
Michael signed my artwork. :-) I printed out some JD art which didn't suck too
badly (and one SamDanny manip) and I just tossed one JD art at him and he looked
at it and asked me whether I did that. I: "Yeah." -- MS:
"How?" -- I: "Adobe Photoshop 7. " *he looks at me* I:
"as a counterbalance for university..." *smile* --MS :"It's
good." Then he signed it and I, again because I'm a nit, didn't look in
his eyes. I looked at my art ...*headdesks*
Went home, arrived home at 2000.
Summary:
A lot of fun and my friend told me that on Sunday Cliff took off his shirt for
charity ... and I –how else could it be—was at home ... *sulk*
